Q: What is video-on-demand?
A: Video-on-demand allows you to view a video-taped transmission after the course is taught. Through this technology you can access the video at any time convenient to your schedule regardless of your time zone - 24/7!

Q: What do I need to begin?
A: You will need a computer with Internet access, speakers and a minimum 56K modem. High speed access to the Internet through DSL or broadband is highly recommended. Most current PC's and MAC's will meet the necessary technical requirements. However, check the specifications detailed at technical requirements to make sure your computer is able to receive FCU Live Online.

Q: What is DSL and broadband and why are you recommending one of these technologies for FCU Live Online?
A: Both DSL and broadband are technologies that move information across the Internet at very fast speeds. Since FCU Live Online uses video streaming technology, your e-learning experience will be much better with one of these high speed options. A 56K modem connection should give you good audio reception, however the picture will not be as smooth as you are accustomed to watching on your TV.

Q: How do I get DSL or broadband on my computer?
A: Contact your telephone company for information on DSL. It's not available in all cities yet, but will be soon. Contact your cable company for broadband which is widely available. Check with your current Internet provider for more information or search the Internet for a list of companies that offer these technologies.

Q: How do I start taking classes on-line?
A: Complete the on-line Application Process. Once the application is received, completed and approved, you will be issued a Student ID# and password. You can then register for your first course through the Registration Process.

Q: What is the Academic Schedule?
A: Classes are taught ‘LIVE’ on Monday night 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST from Orlando, Florida. A new course starts every four (4) weeks. Check the Course Schedule for the next upcoming class.

Q: How can I take classes if I'm not able to login Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. EST?
A: Each live session will be ‘captured’ on video and made available through video-on-demand 24/7 for the duration of the scheduled class.

Q: What if my computer doesn't work and I can't get to class?
A: Technical Support will be available before and during the viewing of each "LIVE’ class as well as designated times throughout the week by email at Techsupport@fcu.edu. You will also have the option of viewing the class by video-on-demand anytime after the class is taught for the duration of the 4 week course.

Q: How will I receive course requirements for each course?
A: Once the Registration Process is complete, the Course Syllabus will be accessible and will contain the course requirements and all other necessary information pertaining to that course.

Q: How will I ask my instructor questions?
A: By email. Email addresses will be available to registered students for communication with instructors, the Admissions Department and Tech Support.

Q: How will I be tested for the course?
A: The e-learning software used by FCU Live On-Line has a testing feature that is easy to use and gives immediate test scores upon completion of each test. Most tests will be open book tests with a combination of multiple choice, true/false and short answer.

Q: How will I get my textbooks?
A: Textbooks are purchased at the time of registration through our on-line Registration Process. They are shipped directly to you. In the event that you already own the textbook required for a course, you are not required to purchase another one, however, you are required to read it again during the course dates.

Q: What happens if I start taking courses and then I have to stop for a while?
A: You simply wait until you can return and register for the next upcoming course. The credits you have earned will remain in your student file. If you wait more than 12 months to return you will pay a small re-instatement fee.
